Aaron Shapland is currently studying the archaeology of ancient Mesopotamia and the Arabian Peninsula at the University of Toronto, Department of Near & Middle Eastern Civilizations. He is also Co-President of the NMC Students' Union.

WORK:

Since the beginning of 2010, Mr. Shapland has been actively involved with mapwork of the Nippur Expedition (Iraq) for the Oriental Institute, University of Chicago. He is based out of the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto.

FIELDWORK:

Hamoukar 2010 (based out of the Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago). Tell Hamoukar in modern-day Syria is an ancient Mesopotamian city-state which flourished around 4000 BCE. It is known for being the oldest evidence of warfare in the region. On the dig, Mr. Shapland will be responsible for producing digitized maps of the excavations.
